What questions should I be asking a breeder?
-
Do both parents have health clearances for eyes, heart, hips, and elbows?
-
Can I view the certificates?
-
Can I meet the parents? Is at least the mother on site?
-
Can I see where the puppies are born and raised?
-
If we are local, when can we visit the puppies during their first 8 weeks?
-
How many litters has the mother had? How old is she? How frequently do you breed a dog?
-
What food do you provide for the mother? What do you feed the puppies? (It should be high quality and grain-free. Puppy food should be grain-free and rich in protein, Omegas, fat, and calcium.
-
What Early Neurological Stimulation, socialization, and desensitization exercises and experiences do you use with the puppies during their first 8 weeks to ensure they are confident, friendly, mellow, emotionally balanced, less anxious, and less fearful?
-
Where do you raise the puppies?
-
What type of human interaction do they receive? How often and how much?
-
What is your selection process? Do you assign a puppy to me, or am I allowed to choose one?
-
What training, tips, or advice do you provide for continuing socialization training when we take our puppy home?
-
Are you available to assist us during the first few weeks at home with our puppy if we have questions about leash, potty, or crate training?
-
When will we receive our AKC registration papers? Are they limited or unlimited registrations?
-
Do you provide the puppies’ initial health checks with your vet and their first vaccinations?
-
Do you offer a health guarantee?
-
We strongly encourage you to wait for a puppy from a reputable breeder. Rushing the process may lead to settling for a lower quality pup, resulting in potential heartache later. If we don't have a pup available, you can either join our waiting list for the next litter or we can recommend breeders who meet our trusted standards.
